Ontario's chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams said Monday that the province's COVID-19 indicators — including hospitalizations and daily new cases — are moving in the right direction, but urged people to continue to be vigilant as more people get vaccinated.

Ontario reported 3,436 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. The provincial total now stands at 473,901.

Williams said daily cases have been under 4,000 in the last nine days, showing a slow decrease in virus activity "but it is still time for care and caution," he added.

However, the doctor stressed on the importance of holding tight and not relaxing measures yet. He urged people to continue wearing masks and practice social distancing until more people get vaccinated.

The death toll in the province has risen to 8,118 as 16 more deaths were recorded on Monday.
