Ontario’s associate chief medical officer of health Dr. Barbara Yaffe on Monday reported three new cases of the COVID-19 variant first identified in the U.K., bringing the total number of cases reported in the province to six.

All three cases have travel history or are a close contact of a person who travelled. They are located in York, Toronto and Peel regions.

The three regions accounted for 58 per cent of the recently reported cases of COVID-19 in the province, said Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, adding that the province will have to wait longer to see the impact of the lockdown imposed by the Ford government on Dec. 26.

Ontario reported 3,270 new cases of the coronavirus on Monday, bringing the provincial total to 194,232.
