Ontario's chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams and deputy chief medical officer of health Dr. Barbara Yaffe reported 4,447 new COVID-19 cases in the province on Monday.

Monday’s case count is higher than Sunday’s which saw 4,250 new infections. On Saturday, 4,350 new cases were recorded. It is also the sixth day in a row cases are above 4,000.

According to Monday’s report, 1,299 cases were recorded in Toronto, 926 in Peel Region, 577 in York Region, 233 in Ottawa, 227 in Hamilton, 205 in Durham Region and 203 in Niagara.

The health briefing comes after the province saw confusion and anger over new restrictions unveiled by Premier Doug Ford Friday, which extended the stay-at-home order by two weeks, but also included increased police powers and restricting outdoor gatherings and closed playgrounds and other outdoor activities. A day later, Ford rescinded the closure on playgrounds and amended the police powers. Restrictions on some outdoor amenities like golf courses and soccer fields remain in place, but these too are facing heavy criticism and even a petition to reopen golf.
