Ontario reports 164 new COVID-19 cases, lowest seen since early September | FULL
Ontario reported 164 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, marking the lowest count since Sept. 9 and the second day in a row cases were below 200.
Chief medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore praised Ontarians for "rolling up their sleeves" and getting vaccinated, but cautioned people not to lower their guard as variants like the one first identified in India, also known as the Delta variant, continue to spread.
There were 80 cases from Toronto in 2020 that were added to the count, which officially registered 244 cases that day. There was also nine new deaths.
As of Tuesday, the province had vaccinated 78.42 per cent of adults 18 and older with one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 47.81 per cent had both doses. Among all ages eligible for a vaccine, there have been 15,921,585 doses given, with 10,037,944 with one dose and 5,883,641 who are fully vaccinated.
