Ontario's chief medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore provided a COVID-19 modelling update Tuesday, as cases are on the rise in the province.
The province's COVID-19 science advisory table has released new projections that indicate cases are rising substantially, even without the Omicron variant of the virus, and that vaccinating young children and increased public health measures are key to flattening the curve.
The science table also noted there will likely be a surge in cases above its current projections due to the Omicron variant.
At least 13 cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant have been detected so far in the province and the London, Ont., area health unit is investigating a potential cluster of 30.
Ontario's seven-day average of daily new cases is up to 940, a level not seen since the decline of the third wave in early June.
