Feds ready to mobilize health-care staff from provinces to Ontario amid COVID-19 cases surge | FULL

Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc said on Sunday that the federal government is coordinating efforts with Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia to mobilize additional health-care staff to help frontline workers in Ontario amid the recent surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

He also said the federal government has offered to cover all the costs and can coordinate with the military to move health-care staff to the province.

LeBlanc said the federal government is ready to deploy federal health-care staff and has provided an additional $48.2 million in funding for voluntary self-isolation sites in Ontario, in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Ontario announced a range of new restrictions on Friday as the province continues to deal with the third wave of COVID-19.

The stay-at-home order was also extended for another two weeks and will now be in place until at least May 20. Residents must stay home except for essential reasons, including outdoor exercise, getting groceries, work that cannot be done remotely, or accessing health-care services.
