While there is no definitive answer on whether Canada will mandate COVID-19 vaccination certificates, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday they are “naturally to be expected” as part of the pandemic.

“As was the case pre-pandemic, certificates of vaccination are a part of international travel to certain regions and are naturally to be expected when it comes to this pandemic and the coronavirus,” Trudeau stated. “How we actually roll that out in alignment with partners and allies around the world is something that we’re working on right now to coordinate."

Trudeau also announced that Canada is set to donate $10 million to the Indian Red Cross as well as provide personal protective equipment (PPE) and ventilators, as India’s health-care system continues to be pushed to the brink of collapse amid a surge of COVID-19 cases.

The prime minister said almost two million COVID-19 doses will arrive to Canada this week, including the first Johnson & Johnson shipment.
