Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday spoke with reporters outside Rideau Cottage in Ottawa about Canada receiving COVID-19 vaccines from COVAX, an initiative to help low- to middle-income countries receive vaccines, stating that when wealthier countries financially support it, half of the funding is for domestic doses.

He confirmed Canada will receive vaccine doses through COVAX and directly through the pharmaceutical companies the government has already inked deals with.
Federal officials held a briefing on the pandemic situation following the prime minister's media availability.

Chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam said that more than 70 per cent of Canadians intend to get the COVID-19 vaccine once it becomes available to the wider public, according to studies by the Privy Council Office.

She also said some statistics indicate a number of health-care workers “still have questions about the vaccine.”
