Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday reassured Canadians that millions more COVID-19 vaccine doses are on the way, while also announcing a major booster shot deal with Pfizer.

The prime minister said almost two million doses will arrive next week, including the first 300,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses.

Trudeau also announced a deal with Pfizer for 35 million booster shots for next year and 30 million for the year after. The deal with Pfizer includes options to add 30 million shots for 2022 and 2023 and an option for 60 million shots in 2024.

Trudeau said they've delivered almost 14 million COVID-19 vaccine doses across the country to date and that 30 per cent of eligible adults have received at least one vaccine.

A day after cancelling all flights from India and Pakistan for 30 days due to variants of concern, the prime minister said passengers arriving on non-direct flights from those countries would be subject to having to provide a negative COVID-19 test upon departure.
