During a visit to Brampton, Ont. on Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau touched on issues pertaining to the nation's housing crisis, its recent tensions with India and the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
Announcing Brampton as the next city to receive significant funding from the government's housing accelerator, Trudeau estimated approximately 24,000 new homes will be built in the rapidly-expanding community over the 10 years, including houses near transit stations and secondary schools.
Following up on Trudeau's announcement, housing minister Sean Fraser addressed "other" Canadian cities, claiming "there is additional federal money on the table" and adding that in order to help "drive municipal change," the government needs partners willing to build near transit stations and educational institutions.
Touching on the Indian government's recent decision to revoke the diplomatic immunity of 41 Canadian diplomats in India, Trudeau said it is something "all countries in the world should be very worried about," further dubbing the move an intentional choice to "contravene a very fundamental principle of international law and diplomacy."
Regarding rumblings of a divide within the liberal caucus on how to respond to the Israel-Hamas conflict, Trudeau admitted his cabinet has "lots of different perspectives," but said their "fears and concerns" are united.
