Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Thursday a plan to fast-truck the construction of 1,700 new housing units in Vaughan, Ont. and spur the construction of thousands of new homes over the next few years.

Through the Housing Accelerator Fund, the government will put $59 million toward getting new housing build in the city.

Trudeau also addressed other key issues facing his government, including calls to release details of alleged ex-Nazis who entered Canada after the Second World War.

Trudeau said public servants are “looking carefully” at the Deschenes Commission report to determine whether more information can be released. The Deschenes report was completed after the Second World War and contains information on alleged ex-Nazis who came to Canada after the conflict ended — though the names have been redacted.

Trudeau also denied that the government will cut $1 billion from the defence budget, saying “there are no cuts to our military.” after Canada's top soldier said they had been told to find ways to "take almost a billion dollars out of the budget."
