Minister of Social Development Ahmed Hussen announced on Thursday that the federal government will provide an additional $132.2 million in funding to the City of Toronto through the federal rapid housing initiative, to go to building an additional 233 housing units within 12 months.
The federal initiative has a target of building 3,000 housing units for people experiencing homelessness across the country. The target now has been expanded to build 4,700 housing units.
The project will get an additional $1.3 billion in funding, of which the City of Toronto is getting $132.2 million.
