Saskatchewan's Premier Scott Moe announced on Wednesday that the province is set to receive its first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on December 15.
The announcement came shortly after Health Canada approved the Pfizer vaccine for use in Canada, which Moe said will increase the number of doses the province initially anticipated to receive.
The premier, alongside health officials, released the distribution plan, beginning with a pilot program of 1,950 doses expected to be delivered by Dec. 15 to be administered at the Regina General Hospital and to be prioritized for health-care workers providing direct care to COVID-19 patients.
Phase one later in December will include 10,725 doses, for long-term care homes and personal-care residents and staff, followed by health-care workers in emergency departments and intensive care units, and then by residents in all communities over the age of 80.
Moe said Moderna is also expected to start delivering its vaccine candidate once approved early in 2021.
