During a federal COVID-19 update on Tuesday, Minister of Public Services and Procurement Anita Anand said that Canada will receive a total of 643,000 doses of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines this week, calling it “the largest shipment to date.” She added that a total of 2.5 million vaccine doses will have been delivered by the end of the month, and another 3.5 million are arriving in March.

Even though Canada’s vaccination campaign is ramping up, the federal government says it has no intention to set an “official date” for when all pandemic-related restrictions could be lifted.

Chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam added that COVID-19 vaccines “will play a critical role in easing public health measures," and vaccinating as many people as possible “means that resurgence then becomes less likely.”

“That’s absolutely the goal, but you can’t put an absolute date on one of these things," she stated.
