Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin said Wednesday that he is expecting Canada will receive eight million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of March, and that the federal government is moving into Phase 2 of its vaccine distribution plan.

Fortin, who heads up Canada’s vaccine distribution program, made the remarks during a briefing on the vaccine rollout alongside other health officials.

Health Canada has approved four vaccines for use in Canada. Fortin said to date it has received a combined 3.8 million doses of the vaccines. Johnson & Johnson, however, has yet to deliver its first shipment to Canada.

Fortin said his team held a dress rehearsal with provincial and territorial counterparts as it prepares to ramp up distribution of the vaccines, but added more discussions are needed.
