Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin discussed on Thursday Canada's COVID-19 vaccine rollout plan, saying that the quantity of COVID-19 vaccine doses arriving in Canada is “anticipated to average more than one million doses a week for both currently approved vaccines starting in April.”

He said this would signal the transition into phase two, which he called the “ramp up phase.”

Fortin also provided an update on current vaccine deliveries across Canada, saying more than 380,000 doses were delivered to provinces and territories this week and they expect to have distributed a total of 929,000 doses by Friday.

Canada added 6,849 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Wednesday, pushing the total number of infections in the country to 680,806. Health authorities said another 150 people have died after testing positive for COVID-19. To date, the virus has claimed 17,383 lives in Canada.
