Saskatchewan Health Minister Paul Merriman on Wednesday said that the province was "ready to go" for vaccine delivery once the federal government provides details on when they can expect distribution, saying that they finally "know where that finish line is" in terms of the "marathon" that is the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said more details will be provided on the vaccine rollout in the coming days, but added they expect health care workers and those in long-term and personal care homes to be the first recipients.
Merriman made the comments during a COVID-19 briefing alongside chief medical officer of health Dr. Saqib Shahab.

Shahab stressed that the upcoming December holidays are a time where people could help to bring the COVID-19 numbers down, but cautioned people’s desire to gather with loved ones during the holidays should be balanced out by acknowledging the possibility for a rebound of coronavirus cases in January.

Health officials said there were 238 new cases in the daily update on Wednesday, with the overall total for the province growing to 8,982 since the first case was reported in March.
