Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Friday that the province will be out of doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine by the end of next week. Ford said he spoke with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday night about the need for a more reliable vaccine supply.

“All the progress we’ve made, getting our daily vaccine numbers up, will be lost,” Ford said.
As of 8 p.m. Thursday, the province said 4,053 people have been fully vaccinated with two shots. Ontario has administered 87,563 doses so far.

During the briefing, Ford also asked Health Canada to approve the AstraZeneca vaccine, which has been already approved by the U.K. “That will really, really help us out,” he added.

He also said the province would be releasing COVID-19 modelling next week, calling it “a wake up call” and stating that “there will be further measures because this is getting out of control.” Ford added this is "the most serious situation” the province has been in since the start of the pandemic.

Ontario reported 4,249 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, a single-day record in the province, bringing the provincial total to 208,394. The death toll in the province has risen to 4,882 as 26 more deaths were reported.
