Despite light showers and a decrease in temperatures in parts of the province earlier in the week, Alberta’s wildfire situation remained volatile Sunday as firefighters raced to contain the 87 active wildfires — 24 of which were considered out of control — across the province.
Alberta officials will provide an update on the current conditions at 3 p.m. local time (5 p.m ET).
Wildfire risk remains extreme in most of the province and will continue to increase in the coming days as a heat dome settles over the province, officials said.
