Alberta officials will provide an update on the ongoing wildfire situation in the province on Wednesday.

While crews continue to battle out of control wildfires, smoke has now become an issue for many communities in the province.

On Tuesday morning, the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) for Calgary was rated as 10+, considered very high risk.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) encourages children, the elderly, expectant mothers and people with heart, lung or other chronic health conditions to avoid outdoor physical activities.

More than 19,500 people in Alberta had been forced from their homes as of Tuesday evening. Ninety-one active wildfires were burning in the province, with 27 listed as out of control.
