Alberta Premier Danielle Smith will be joined by officials to provide an update on the wildfire situation in the province on Monday.

Global News has confirmed that Alberta will ask for military support sometime on Monday.

According to Global News' Saif Kaiser "senior military sources confirm unofficial order went out to personnel last week to kit up and prepare to deploy".

Meanwhile, 8,000 people in Edson were allowed back Monday. Many had been out since Friday, when an out-of-control wildfire prompted an evacuation order for the area.

Despite light showers and a decrease in temperatures in parts of the province on Sunday, Alberta’s wildfire situation remains volatile as firefighters race to contain 108 active wildfires across the province.
