Danielle Smith will stay in power as Alberta's premier after the United Conservative Party (UCP) won a majority government in the 2023 election, but the results highlight how the province remains deeply divided on politics. Several of her cabinet ministers lost, and the UCP didn't score any seats in the capital. Heather Yourex-West looks at the reaction, and what the NDP accomplished despite losing the election.

Plus, Global National's Dawna Friesen asks Smith about her pledge to unify the province no matter how people voted, how she’ll keep the UCP united, whether she's heard from the group Take Back Alberta — which takes credit for her success —and how she hopes to reset her relationship with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Nova Scotia's wildfires have either destroyed or damaged hundreds of structures and the dry weather is making it challenging for crews to fight the flames. Mike Armstrong is in Halifax hearing from the people fearing for their homes, while meteorologist Anthony Farnell explains when the province could see some relief.

Former Conservative leader and current Ontario MP Erin O'Toole says he was informed by CSIS that the Chinese government had targeted him, and in his view, the Canadian government failed to stop it. Touria Izri reports on how Beijing allegedly singled out O'Toole.

Plus, a young B.C. woman became the champion of a cheese rolling contest, despite knocking herself unconscious during the competition. What Delaney Irving remembers from the race, and her prize for taking first place.
