From political exile to premier: Danielle Smith is the new leader of the United Conservative Party and will lead until at least May when the next election will be held. After three months of losses, the Canadian economy is finally creating jobs. Canada added 21,000 jobs last month, pushing the unemployment rate down to 7.2 per cent. The labour market remains extremely tight and as Anne Gaviola explains, it’s forcing some employers to come up with creative ways to find workers.

Canadians whose deaths are not imminent may still qualify for medically assisted dying after eligibility was expanded last year. More than 10,000 of those individuals decided to end their lives in 2021 – up 32 per cent from 2020. Now, there are concerns about the potential for unnecessary deaths.
