Alberta wildfire officials Bre Hutchinson and Christie Tucker provided an update about the ongoing blazes sweeping the province on Tuesday in a press conference.

The update kicked off with details of alarmingly increasing fire activity around Fort Chipewyan, Alta., and the surrounding area — including the First Nation communities of Alison Bay and Dog Head. The perimeter is currently on evacuation alert.

Hutchinson, executive director of the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, said that there are currently five ongoing evacuation orders in place. She also touched upon the status of the Canadian Armed Forces’ presence in the province amid Nova Scotia’s own recent wildfire situation.

Tucker, the information unite manager for Alberta Wildfire, revealed that there are currently 62 wildfires in the forest protection area of Alberta, 19 of which, are considered “out of control.”
