One day after announcing tighter public COVID-19 health measures in Alberta, Premier Jason Kenney has announced that starting on Monday, May 10 all residents 12 and older can receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

To avoid overwhelming the system, bookings for the vaccine will be done in two steps.

Starting on May 6, every Albertan 30 or older can book their appointment through Alberta Health Services or a participating pharmacy.

On May 10, Albertans aged 12 to 29 will be able to book at the same locations.

According to the provincial government, 3.8 million Albertans will become eligible as part of this expansion.

Alberta Health Minister Tyler Shandro also commented on the recent death of a women in the province from a rare blood-clot linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine.

“My thoughts are with the patient's family and all of her loved ones,” Shandro said.

Shandro continued to urge Albertans to get the vaccine, saying the risk of a blood clot from COVID-19 far exceeds that of one from the vaccine.
