COVID-19: Alberta expanding eligibility for third dose of coronavirus vaccine | FULL

Alberta is expanding the availability of third dose booster shots of COVID-19 vaccine to all Albertans over the age of 18 Health Minister Jason Copping announced Wednesday.

The province will be taking a staged approach, starting on Dec. 2 with all Albertan's aged 60 and older being able to book their appointment.

First appointments will be available beginning Dec. 6.

All other Albertans over 18 will be notified when the next age group will be able to book appointments.

According to a government press release "additional age groups will be announced as quickly as possible."

Those who were previously eligible for third doses continue to be able to book their appointments.

Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw also announced that two more cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant had been identified in the province.

The two cases are in a traveler who recently returned from South Africa and the Netherlands and a household contact according to Hinshaw.
