Quebec's health minister Christian Dubé on Thursday said the province plans to give the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine within a maximum of three months for patients who have already received their first dose.

Roughly 8,000 people received a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday bringing the total number to 115,000 people.

Dubé says the province’s strategy is “clear” and that the government wants to vaccinate “as many vulnerable people as possible” as the health crisis brings an uptick in hospitalizations and deaths.

“Our experts are recommending the second dose be recommended 42 to 90 days after the first,” he told reporters Thursday, adding that deliveries have gone well so far.

The province reported 2,132 new cases and 64 additional deaths linked to the novel coronavirus pandemic Thursday.
