Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw updated the province’s COVID-19 vaccination program on Monday as Phase 2A got underway.

Hinshaw announced the underlying health conditions that would make someone eligible under Phase 2B. A full list of conditions can be found on the Alberta Health Services website. Conditions include cancer, chronic diseases and severe mental illness.

Meanwhile, vaccinations for those eligible in Phase 2C will begin once 2B is complete. Some of those eligible in 2C are caregivers of Albertans who are most at risk of severe outcomes, health-care workers on First Nation reserves, residents and support staff at eligible congregate living and work settings, and all employees at meat-packing plants.

The province identified 264 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, with 65 new cases involving variants of concern. There were 255 Albertans with COVID-19 in hospital, with 42 of them in the ICU.
