Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and Health Minister Tyler Shandro updated the province's COVID-19 vaccine rollout plan and continuing care home restrictions during a news conference on Thursday.
Starting May 10, updated public health measures for Alberta continuing care centres will come into effect. The new protocols will increase the number of designated support persons for each resident and expand the number of people who can attend outdoor social visits. Limited indoor social gatherings will also be allowed.
It was also announced that the Alberta government will start to vaccinate workers at meat-packing plants province-wide. The plans include a variety of approaches including on-site clinics, pharmacies and Alberta Health Services clinics.
Meat-packing plant workers were identified as an eligible group under Phase 2C of the province's rollout plan, but delays in COVID-19 vaccine supply delayed the start of the program.
Albertans between the ages of 12 and 15 with underlying health conditions will be eligable for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine starting April 27.
A doctor’s note is required to book an appointment with participating pharmacies and AHS.
