Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced an agreement with Nova Scotia to provide $10-a-day childcare by 2026 in the province, as well as boost childcare spaces by 4,000 by the end of 2022, with 9,500 more in five years.

The agreement was announced alongside Premier Iain Rankin and other federal and provincial ministers on Tuesday.

Trudeau also spoke briefly about the recent discovery of more than 160 unmarked graves found near another former residential school in B.C. He said his "heart breaks" over the discovery and while they cannot bring back those lost, his government will continue to work with Indigenous peoples to fight systemic racism.

The prime minister was also asked several questions about COVID-19, including vaccine "passports" and mandatory vaccines after France mandated them for all health-care workers come fall 2021.

Regarding vaccine certification, he said while the federal government was looking at COVID-19 vaccine certification, what some have referred to as vaccine "passports" for international travel, it was up to provinces to decide a domestic approach. Quebec, for example, is considering using a vaccine passport for things like gyms if the province were to enter a fourth wave, while Alberta has said they would not use such a system at all.

In terms of mandating vaccines, he did not directly say if the country was considering making COVID-19 vaccines mandatory for health-care workers like France has done, or for other sectors, instead stressing they would focus on giving Canadians the information they need to make the choice to get a vaccine and ensuring access to shots.
