Nova Scotia Premier Iain Rankin reported zero new cases of COVID-19 in a briefing on Wednesday as the province officially entered its fourth phase of reopening.

In this phase, masks won't be required in outdoor settings, restaurants and bars can operate at normal hours, and retail shops can operate at full capacity.

The premier told Nova Scotians to continue being vigilant and cautious. "We're not out of the woods yet," he said.

The province has reached its target of 75 per cent of residents with one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine for this stage of reopening, but won't move to the next and final stage until 75 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.

The province is also expected to call an election soon. Voters will be encouraged to mail in their ballots, Elections Nova Scotia said on Monday.
