Nova Scotia Premier Iain Rankin announced Sunday the province will increase fines on gatherings from $1,000 to $2,000 after police broke up a house party attended by 22 people in Halifax, which is currently under lockdown.
He also said further public health restrictions will be put in place on gatherings, reducing limits to a total of 10 people indoors and outdoors, including an individual family household. He also asked people not to travel outside of their community.
The rules will be in place until May 20.
The province reported 63 new cases on Sunday, for a total of 263 active cases. This is the highest daily COVID-19 case count for Nova Scotia since the pandemic began.
On Saturday night, the province announced five new schools now have connected COVID-19 cases.
