Surfside building collapse: 3 more confirmed dead as search efforts resume following demolition

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava confirmed Monday that three additional victims of the devastating building collapse had been recovered, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths to 27.

Cava said 118 people are still missing.

The mayor said demolition of the remaining portion of the collapsed condo building in Surfside, Fla., “was executed exactly as planned.”

She said crews received the “all clear” to resume search-and-rescue efforts on the site “a little over an hour” after the demolition was completed.

Cava said crews are now conducting search efforts in areas “closest to the building” that had not been accessible prior to the demolition.
