Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced in a Tuesday evening update that another body had been found in the Surfside condominium building which had collapsed last week, bringing the total number of deaths to 12.
Levine Cava made the announcement alongside county and state officials, who were giving the update on the ongoing rescue operation at the partially collapsed condominium building in Surfside, Fla. on Tuesday evening as it nears the end of the sixth day.
Twelve deaths are now confirmed from the incident and 149 are still missing. 125 people are accounted for. Levine Cava also advised they had been including the number of people dead as part of those accounted for, but going forward would instead provide the numbers in each group separately as well as the number unaccounted for. Four Canadians are also confirmed to be among those still missing.
Levine Cava in an earlier update Tuesday announced that she will be meeting with "subject area experts" to prevent future tragedies.
The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
