Nearly two weeks after the wildfires began, the Halifax Regional Municipality has moved from active fighting to community return and recovery.

Mayor Mike Savage announced during an update on Friday that their intention is to get people back to their homes.

Long-awaited news for the residents still out of their homes, but the potential for danger is not over.

Halifax Regional Municipality Fire Chief Ken Stuebing is asking returning residents to be vigilant.

“As residents return to the area, we would ask them to be diligent in looking for signs of smoke and obviously reporting that as soon as possible.”

As Megan King reports, ensuring the safe return will be a complicated task, as Wednesday saw issues with oil and propane tanks blowing.
