In an update Wednesday morning, David Steeves, a technician of forest resources with the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables, said the fire burning in the Tantallon and Hammonds Plains area has now grown to 837 hectares, an increase of nearly 50 hectares since the previous day.
He added that it could be a “difficult day” for the crews fighting a fire in the Halifax area, as high temperatures and low humidity continues to pose a challenge.
The Halifax-area fire is one of three out-of-control wildfires burning in the province, straining resources and forcing evacuations.
