In response to a request from the Ontario government, the City of Toronto will be opening up a large COVID-19 immunization clinic next week, which is "quite a few weeks earlier than originally planned," announced Mayor John Tory on Monday. The clinic will be located at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

In addition, Tory stated that he supports the Ontario government's implementation of new public health measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, which will likely be announced Tuesday.

After reports emerged that an Ontario-wide curfew is currently off the table, Toronto’s medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa said the city wouldn’t be considering its own curfew at this time either because there’s not enough evidence to support efficacy of one to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The doctor stressed the importance of following current public health measures such as maintaining physical distancing and staying home.

On Monday, it was reported that Ontario has surpassed 5,000 reported COVID-19 deaths.
