In order to "translate the Biden-Harris COVID-19 plan into action," as cases continue to sharply rise in the United States, president-elect Joe Biden on Monday announced the formation of the COVID-19 Transition Advisory Board.

Once sworn into office in January 2021, Biden said he and vice-president-elect Kamala Harris will continue to add members on this board, which will be science-based.

Biden also said a coronavirus vaccine approval process must be guided by science so the public can have confidence it is safe and effective, warning that the United States is still facing a very dark winter and that a vaccine likely won't be available for months.

“I implore you, wear a mask. Do it for yourself. Do it for your neighbor. A mask is not a political statement," Biden said, adding that he would spare no effort to turn the pandemic around once he is sworn in.

Biden, just days after being declared 46th president of the United States, had promised during his campaign to bring the pandemic under control and save the U.S. economy at the same time.
