The government of Canada announced on Wednesday new requirements for air travel passengers arriving in the country, with all those who enter Canada needing to obtain a negative COVID-19 test three days before arriving. The new requirements are likely to come into force in the next few days.

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc made the announcement during a COVID-19 update, alongside Health Minister Patty Hajdu, Public Safety Minister Bill Blair, deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo and Maj. Gen. Dany Fortin, who has been in charge of the details and logistics of the vaccine rollout.

Fortin said that the December allocations of vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna have almost all been delivered and they are expecting more deliveries in January, with it accelerating through early 2021.
Njoo also said that anyone who is travelling, whether by air, land or sea, must now use the ArriveCan app before their arrival in the country. It will also be used for checking in during the 14-day mandatory quarantine.

Blair advised that the testing requirement before arrival is not to be seen as a replacement for the quarantine and people must abide by said requirement on arriving in Canada. He said violating quarantine could result in up to six months in jail or up to $750,000 in fines.
