Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a $600 million funding package on Friday aimed at accelerating homebuilding across Canada.

As part of the massive funding package, the prime minister said $50 million would go toward a $50-million homebuilding technology and innovation fund.

Trudeau said if provinces want to see that money from the federal government they’ll have to be “ambitious.”

“If they don’t want to do more in those areas, they don’t have to take our money. But if they want to deliver for their citizens, we’re saying be ambitious; be ambitious as we are and we’ll help pay for it.”

Another $50 million will be put toward modernizing and expediting construction.
The majority of the cash — $500 million — will be spent on low-cost loans for prefabricated and modular housing manufacturers.
