Firefighters battling out-of-control wildfires in Alberta continue to make significant progress, taking advantage of the recent cooler weather.

According to Christie Tucker from Alberta Wildfire, “The extreme rate of growth we saw on these wildfires earlier this month has now slowed over the past two days.”

According to Tucker, only one new wildfire has been detected in Alberta since Tuesday.

But Tucker was quick to mention that there is still work to be done and more help is on the way.

“We're welcoming a Hercules Air tanker from California, which has the capacity to hold 3000 gallons of water. Tomorrow, 25 firefighters from New Zealand will arrive, followed by nearly 200 from Australia over the weekend.”

There are 65 wildfires burning in the forest protection area of Alberta, with 17 being classified as out-of-control.
