Speaking at a media availability marking the end of the world leaders' summit at COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland on Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he’s confident world leaders will be able to limit global temperature increases to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-Industrial levels.

World leaders re-committed to that pledge at the summit, but fell short on the target of zero emissions.

Trudeau used his platform at the United Nations climate summit this week to urge the creation of global standards when it comes to carbon pricing.

Touting Canada’s domestic carbon price policy, the prime minister said the world can no longer act as if climate change does not exist because the devastion wrought on communities, like the town of Lytton, B.C., will keep happening as the world heats up.

On Tuesday, he said there are “many different ways” of pricing pollution in different sectors, and that what is crucial is “to establish a principle of stringency and equity to make sure that everyone is pricing at the same level.”
