Myanmar military junta weaponizes pandemic as country's post-coup crisis continues

Min Aung Hlaing, head of Myanmar's military regime, has marked the six months since taking power by appointing himself prime minister.

He is promising to eventually hold elections for the country within the next two years. But the country, formerly known as Burma, has been in turmoil ever since the February coup that removed democratically-elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi, and has seen months of violent and deadly crackdowns on protests.

Now, Global’s Redmond Shannon explains, activists say the military junta is also weaponizing the COVID-19 crisis against its own people.
