Thousands of pro-democracy protesters again flooded the streets of major cities, as a general strike shut down businesses across the country. The marches continue despite threats of lethal force from the military rulers.

An activist in Mandalay, who requested to be known only as "Sam," has told DW that the pro-democracy movement will not give up. "Innocent blood has been spilled and we don't want that to be for nothing," he said. "We have to keep fighting until we get democracy."
