Majority of Canadians indecisive about supporting federal budget: Ipsos poll

Last week’s federal budget is inspiring a lot of apathy in Canadians, according to a new poll from Ipsos exclusively for Global News.

The poll showed an equal number of Canadians – 19 per cent of those surveyed gave the budget a thumbs up and thumbs down, while the majority, 62 per cent, said they’d symbolically shrug their shoulders in indifference.

This budget was billed as a road map to put Canada's economy on the road to recovery out of the pandemic. One in three Canadians – 32 per cent – said they believe that to be the case. Twenty-four per cent of those surveyed have the opposite view and half of Canadians – 53 per cent – said they aren’t sure either way.

This polling also included latest federal vote intention: 38 per cent of decided voters would vote for the Liberals (down 2 points), while 27 per cent would vote for Erin O’Toole and his Conservatives (down 3 points). The NDP, still firmly in third position nationally, has rebounded to 19 per cent of the popular vote (up 6 points), grabbing votes from the two leading parties.
