An Ipsos poll done exclusively for Global News shows 81 per cent of respondents reported feeling worried about the spread of new variants, while 61 per cent are concerned about a potential fourth wave.

Darrell Bricker, CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs, said the numbers suggest Canadians are bracing themselves.

“The way I would best describe it is the people right now are preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best,” he said, noting that 62 per cent also say they believe vaccines will mitigate the impact of any future surge.

The latest polling comes amid speculation that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will soon call an election, forcing Canadians back to the polls.
