Canadians don't have much confidence that provincial governments are ready to address emergency room wait times, according to new Ipsos polling conducted for Global News.

It found roughly eight in ten Canadians would support an expansion of virtual care, and that 63 per cent would support private health care for those able to afford it.

The results of this recent temperature check on the healthcare system were not a surprise to the Canadian Medical Association president Dr. Kathleen Ross, who said that "We need to be able to reassure people that when they need acute care, they can go to the emergency department locally.”

And as health reporter Katherine Ward explains, people are looking for other options to get the care they need in a timely manner.
