Canadian health minister Jean-Yves Duclos along with chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam and other health officials provided an update on the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada on Friday.

Tam said that the COVID-19 Omicron wave appears to have peaked in Canada. "Although daily reported cases remain at record high levels and continue to underestimate the true number of infections, multiple indicators suggest infections have peaked at the national level," she said.

Tam also said that federal and provincials labs have made over 100 identifications of the Omicron sub variant BA.2, but international data suggests that while it may have an advantage on spread, there doesn't seem to be any increase in hospitalizations when compared to BA.1.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) also provided updated guidance on booster shots for children aged five to 11 and for adolescents aged 12-17.
