Quebec Premier François Legault said Monday that a day of mourning would be held on Thursday for Quebecers who died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, stating that a ceremony would be held on that day to honour those who lost their lives.
Legault made the announcement while delivering an update on the province’s ongoing efforts to combat COVID-19 alongside Quebec’s director of public health, Dr. Horacio Arruda.
Arruda also said that the situation in Montreal is “in control,” with coronavirus case numbers seeing a slight increase but with little impact from variants of concern.
Last Wednesday, Legault announced he was maintaining restrictions in the Montreal area because public health authorities feared a novel coronavirus variant could cause rising case numbers and hospitalizations in the region.
