Quebec Health Minister Christian Dube on Thursday addressed some glitches being faced as vaccination registration begins in Quebec for those 85 years and older, saying they are working to improve the situation and will correct the issues that night. He also confirmed that second doses for those in long-term care homes and healthcare staff will be given starting March 15.

Dube made the comments during a COVID-19 update alongside the province's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Horacio Arruda.

Arruda, in response to reporter questions, explained the reasoning for why elementary school children in the province's red zones would need to wear masks in class, saying the COVID-19 virus variants were a new "element in the equation" for determining safety measures.

The province reported 858 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and 16 additional deaths.
